PORTLAND, Ore. – University of Portland men's basketball announced that West Virginia State graduate transfer Noah Jordan has joined the Pilots for his final season of eligibility. Jordan played two seasons at WVSU helping the team win 44 total games and advancing to the second round of the 2022 NCAA Division II Tournament.
"Noah was an immediate fit when he got to campus for his visit," Portland head coach Shantay Legans said. "He will provide us with great perimeter length and athleticism, while fitting our system as a knock down shooter. Noah is mature and will bring toughness and a winning mentality to our locker room."
"I just felt like I was on the same page with the coaching staff," Jordan said of his commitment. "I have been able to impact every program I have been a part of and thought that I could help Portland take the next step and compete for postseason opportunities."
Jordan (6-7, 215) made 39 starts for the Stingers, appeared in 54 total games for WVSU and averaged 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He was efficient from the field by shooting 52 percent overall and 40 percent from three-point range.
During the Stingers run in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, Jordan erupted for 22 points and 12 rebounds as WVSU upset West Liberty in the first round. Over the course of two seasons he recorded seven 20-point games and nine double-digit rebound efforts. His 26 points versus Davis & Elkins (2/9/22) was a career high, while he pulled down a career best 16 rebounds in a win at Frostburg State (1/29/22).
Prior to his time at WVSU Jordan spent his COVID season at Hill College (Hillsboro, Texas) and then played one year at Northern Oklahoma College where he started 20 games and averaged 14.1 points and 8.3 rebounds. A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Jordan played varsity basketball at Indianapolis Metropolitan High School.
"I bring energy, an up-tempo style and loud, upbeat personality," Jordan said when asked what he brings to the Pilots. "I love to defend and play a run and gun style. I like to guard, get it and go."
Jordan joins Lamar transfer
Yuto Yamanouchi-Williams as spring signees for the Pilots. Incoming freshmen
Cyprian Hyde and
Vincent Delano signed during the November signing period.
Legans and the Pilots will bring back several key players including two-time All-West Coast Conference guard, Tyler Robertson. Robertson averaged 15.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and a WCC-best 5.2 assists per game last season.
Chris Austin, who averaged 14.2 points for the Pilots during the 2021-22 season, will return to the active roster next year after redshirting this past season with a broken leg. Juanse Gorosito earned All-WCC Freshman Team honors, broke the Pilot freshman record for three-pointers made (63) and started 12 games, while center Vasilije Vucinic started 10 games. Portland is also eager to integrate Vukasin Masic (Maine transfer) and freshman Bol Dengdit who are coming off redshirt seasons and expected to be key contributors.
